Community alignment

When designing a new community or joining a pre-existing one, it's useful to consider what sort of community this is, and to which extent its members are aligned on community intentions.

Here are some things to consider:

Community definition

How you refer to this community.
The shared motivation of community members for coming together.
The practices, rules and boundaries of the community.
The topics the community is focused on.
Things people want to find, accomplish, achieve or preserve which motivates them to come together.
Things people worry about, fear, avoid, counteract or postpone which motivates them to come together.
Things people consider demanding or spend a lot of time, energy and mental capacity which motivates them to come together.
Resources this community might benefit from.
Profiles which may benefit from this community.
The character traits needed to fit in and gain value from the community.
How community candidates are evaluated.
