Overview

Notes is Relatable’s open capture surface — a place to gather thoughts, links, files, and small to‑dos before they belong somewhere more structured. Each note can stand on its own, or act as a bridge forward: connect it to other things that matter to you, or let the content mature into a more permanent place when you’re ready. When things start to pile up, you can also go through loose notes and clarify them — what they’re about, where they belong, and how you intend to use them.

Why this container matters psychologically

Many thoughts and impressions don’t need to become “something” right away. They can be half‑formed, unclear, or simply feel important without you knowing why. An open capture surface gives you permission to put things down without deciding direction — and frees you from holding everything in your head. It’s psychologically relieving to know something is taken care of, long before you know what it will become.

At the same time, open capture itself can become overwhelming when loose notes pile up. Then you don’t only need more space — you need a gentle way to return to what you’ve captured: asking what it’s about, where it belongs, whether you have clarity, and how you intend to use it — without forcing structure before you’re ready. That restores overview and makes the capture usable again.

What happens without a container like this

Without a place like this, a lot disappears: thoughts are forgotten, links vanish into browser history, and files sit without context. Or we force things too early into more structured forms — a conversation, a project, a decision — before we’re ready, and lose touch with what was actually important. That weakens both the experience and the chance to connect it forward. Without a way to process what has been captured, we either end up with an unsorted pile that weighs on us, or we stop capturing altogether.

  • Capture from different sources: links, files, or something you’re already working on elsewhere
  • Organize into notebooks and with tags
  • Connect a note to other things that matter, and say why the connection exists
  • Go through loose notes and assess what they’re about and where they belong
  • Follow up small tasks with checklists and the “Do” view
  • Share with others via a public link
  • Move it forward or hand it off when it’s ready for a more permanent place
