Sharing
What you want to receive, keep with yourself, or send onward.
Sharing is Relatable’s place for what is on its way out — and what is on its way in. You shape what you want others to see and consider, can keep it with yourself as a middle step before choosing who it should reach, and follow what has been sent. At the same time, what is shared with you lands here, so you can see, organise, and receive it at your own pace — without requiring a reply.
Why this container matters psychologically
Sharing something that matters is often more vulnerable than we admit. We hesitate because we don’t want to interrupt, pressure, or “put something on” someone else — or because we’re unsure it will be seen. A dedicated place to put something into another person’s world removes some of that friction: what you share gets an outer place to live, and the recipient gets time to see and consider without pressure for an immediate response. It is also a relief to be able to keep something with yourself first — to let it sit ready without having to choose a recipient at once. And it is psychologically relieving to know something has been set out for those it concerns — not dumped on them — and that what you receive does not require you to reply before you are ready.
What happens without a container like this
Without a place like this, sharing becomes either too direct — something lands mid‑chat or mid‑conversation as a demand for attention — or we never send, because it feels too heavy. What we care about never reaches through, or lands without room to be considered. What could have sat ready with us is never gathered — and what we receive disappears into noise. We lose both overview of what we have passed on and the chance to receive at our own pace.
- Receive and see what has been shared with you — at your own pace
- Organise received shares on shelves, and archive what you are done with
- Shape something to share: title, note, image, media/link, or something from your repository
- Keep it with yourself first, or gather several things and send them together
- Choose who it should reach — including people outside via a link
- See what you have shared, and whether it has been opened
- Share onward with more people when something has already been sent
- Hide shares from your overview without taking them from the recipient
- Remove shares from an outside reception when they should no longer be visible there
- You want someone to see and consider something — without putting it directly onto them
- You want to shape something and keep it with yourself before choosing a recipient
- Something has been shared with you, and you want to receive it when you are ready
- You want to sort what you have received, so it doesn’t just sit in one pile
- You want to send several things together, in a particular order
- You want to share with someone outside Relatable, via a link
- You want to see what you have sent onward, and to whom
- You want to share something onward with more people after it has already been sent
